{"id":375,"date":"2013-02-06T08:33:30","date_gmt":"2013-02-06T07:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.futuretrend.co.uk\/blog\/?p=375"},"modified":"2025-08-18T10:09:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T09:09:19","slug":"some-pointers-for-ifs-dipfa-exam-070313","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.futuretrend.co.uk\/blog\/some-pointers-for-ifs-dipfa-exam-070313\/","title":{"rendered":"Some pointers for IFS DipFA Exam (07\/03\/13)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>IFS DipFA Exam (date 07\/03\/13)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some pointers&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Fact Find presents us with a scenario for a Mr and Mrs Franey.\u00a0 In my opinion the scenario in this exam is not a million miles removed from any number of real life cases that many Advisers may have seen during their career.<\/p>\n<p>However, regardless of how life-like or not Students may feel the scenario is; it is of course actually there to test your knowledge, and crucially, the application of that knowledge to the client\u2019s circumstances and the suitability of your advice.<\/p>\n<p>This blog summarises some of the key issues students will need to consider for this exam, and some pointers about specific parts of the IFS DipFA Study Folders that students may find useful to review and refresh themselves of in addition to other study \u2013 this blog is not a comprehensive guide to the exam but should get you started.<\/p>\n<p>In this scenario, the clients have exposure to income tax and national insurance as both an employee and as a sole trader.\u00a0 A solid understanding of the rules relating to Income Tax and National Insurance (N.I.) is essential.\u00a0 Anyone not fully clued up on these basics for both employed and self employed clients should immediately head to the IFS Study Folders (issued by the IFS when they started the DipFA course), and look up Topic 2 and Topic 3 in the Taxation folder.\u00a0 Also be aware of N.I. Contributions once over State Retirement Age.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, in preparation for one of our courses, some of the required subject specific areas to consider for further study are;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Defined Benefit (Final Salary) pensions.\u00a0 See Retirement Topic 5.3.2<\/li>\n<li>Needs Based Protection Planning.\u00a0 See Protection Topic 9<\/li>\n<li>Investment Advice.\u00a0 See Investments Topic 14<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is most definitely not a comprehensive list, and of course don\u2019t forget, anything in the syllabus can be considered relevant for the exam.\u00a0 The amendments on the day can cover any issue covered in the Study Folders, or related to these areas.\u00a0 Students would be well advised to <em>at least<\/em> review the sections of the Study Folders for areas of advice they are not familiar with prior to the exam itself.\u00a0 According to recent Examiner\u2019s reports, many students are missing out on marks as a result of not sufficiently addressing the amendments on the day.\u00a0 If there are gaps in your knowledge compared to the syllabus, you run the risk of being caught out!<\/p>\n<p>Further support can be found by booking attendance at one of Futuretrend\u2019s<a title=\"Dipfa exam workshop in north london\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dipfa-training.co.uk\/content.html#afae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> DipFA Exam Workshops<\/a>, or on the remote support option.<\/p>\n<p>Good Luck!<\/p>\n<p>Paul Davis, Dip.
