The Level 2 Certificate in Video Production is an ideal qualification for those people who would like to gain employment in the moving image industry. The qualification may also be used by those already in employment in moving image production and related sectors to gain recognition of their skills and knowledge by earning a formally recognised national qualification.
 
The qualification consists of five mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 Understand applications of moving image technology
  • Unit 02 Plan a moving image sequence
  • Unit 03 Use a video camera
  • Unit 04 Create a finished moving image product
  • Unit 05 Prepare for employment in the moving image production industry

Suitable for:
This qualification is designed to provide underpinning knowledge of moving image production and employment opportunities available in the sector. This qualification provides for flexible delivery and enables candidates to practice and apply skills without being in relevant paid employment.

Prerequisites:

  1. A basic level of numeracy and literacy is required
  2. Good keyboard and mouse skills with a working knowledge of the Windows environment.
  3. Candidates should be aware that they should not register with NCFE or any other awarding body for a qualification at the same level with the same, or a similar, title as this could lead to duplication.

Course outline:

  • Develop an understanding of the creative use of video and the moving image
  • Prepare to record moving images
  • Operate the video camera and playback footage
  • Prepare a shooting script
  • Prepare a storyboard
  • Conduct a location survey and prepare a shooting schedule
  • Record a selection of shots for inclusion in a narrative or descriptive sequence
  • Record an event using shots from at least two complementary camera positions
  • Edit a simple sequence into a finished product
  • Edit material from a range of sources into a finished product
  • Present a finished moving image product
  • Explore job opportunities and types of employment contracts in the moving image
  • production industry
  • Demonstrate an awareness of business practice
  • Prepare a personal career development plan
