This qualification consists of five mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 Operate a computer
  • Unit 02 Word processing
  • Unit 03 Using e-mail
  • Unit 04 Using the internet
  • Unit 05 Software applications

Suitable for:
The NCFE Level 1 Certificate for IT Users is an ideal qualification for those who are total beginners to computing and who wish to develop basic skills in a range of computer software applications.

Prerequisites:

  • No previous computing experience is assumed.
  • A basic level of numeracy and literacy is required.
  • Candidates should be aware that they should not register with NCFE or any other awarding body for a qualification at the same level with the same, or a similar, title as this could lead to duplication.

Course outline:

  • Setting up an IT system safely
  • Using an IT system (windows XP)
  • Creating a document using word processing software (Microsoft word)
  • Formatting and editing a documents using word processing software
  • Using e-mail software facilities (hotmail and outlook express)
  • Sending e-mail messages
  • Navigating the internet
  • Finding, selecting and saving information from the internet
  • Using imaging software (Adobe Photoshop elements)
  • Using a spreadsheet package to carry out basic calculations (Microsoft excel)
